Introduction to Chelsea Waterfront
Chelsea Waterfront is a major regeneration scheme that breathes new life into the historic Lots Road Power Station. This ambitious project integrates high-specification interiors, exceptional public amenities, and a picturesque riverside location, highlighting the unique history of the site. The development features medium-rise blocks as well as an iconic 37-storey tower.
Construction of the West Tower
The centerpiece of Chelsea Waterfront is the remarkable 37-storey West Tower, which stands at 122.5 meters, making it the tallest structure in Chelsea. Ardmore, the main contractor for this project, was responsible for constructing the tower’s reinforced concrete structure. The team also meticulously installed over 11,500 square meters of unitized aluminium curtain walling, showcasing bespoke shadow box detailing. The interior features luxurious appointments, with 73 prime and super-prime apartments, including an extravagant 6,000-square-foot triplex penthouse located on the top floors.
Challenges and Solutions in Construction
The construction process was not without its challenges. Due to the height of the building and its single stair core and lift shafts, Ardmore faced significant logistical difficulties. They implemented a partial occupation strategy that allowed for the early handover of lower floors while construction on upper levels continued. Additionally, the surrounding area includes the Water Gardens, a series of three 10-storey residential blocks nestled in beautifully landscaped gardens, further enhancing the luxury living experience at Chelsea Waterfront.
